GEORGE GAUDY MOTHER (REPRISE)

We’ve just been introduced to Greek musician George Gaudy via something no less important than his debut album, Little Pieces. As anyone with a passing awareness of TMR will know, a List Pick hones in on one song and so we’re picking out ‘Mother (Reprise)’ from Gaudy’s very first record. The opening for this track is so unique - blending bluesy rock with melancholic alto saxophone. The song further transitions into a rhythm and blues tale you’d expect to find in America’s deep south as the harmonised voices sing “don’t tell me mother what I’ve done, / Just tell her, / Tell her, / Tell her that I’m never coming home.” The recording is raw and authentic, thanks to Guady’s dedication to using classic hardware and equipment true to his desired vintage sound. If ‘Mother (Reprise)’ has perked up those ears of yours, then be sure to go check out the full album here. - Hannah Thacker
